Jon Houghton

Jon Houghton grew up in Thornbury, Ontario. He commenced his formal visual art studies at New Brunswick’s Mount Allison University, where he studied Drawing and Painting. Houghton later attended Toronto’s Ontario College of Art and Design and the Aegean Center for Fine Arts in Greece, where he studied classical painting styles. Houghton’s oil-based landscapes are notable for their bright colours and sharp, clean lines. His work has an accessibility and impressive candour that embodies the en plein air painting style. Like his fellow painters who trekked north to Algoma in the fall of 2021, Houghton has painted in many diverse Canadian locations Today his primary focus is Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment. Houghton lives in Collingwood where his studio and gallery, Art by Houghton, are located.
