Henry Reuben

Henry Reuben

This particular artist was born in 1968. Henry's parents were both artists themselves and has brothers who also love to draw paint.

He states that " My Mother would sketch quietly in her chair. I could see her etching away giving that artist look. When I would approach her to see her handiwork, she would shy away from me, anyone for that matter. To this day I have never seen her work."

As with many artists, an interest or skill was always evident from a young age. Life throws curve balls and the balance between nature and nurturing has its outcomes. In this case nature took over for many years. Yes, Henry did attend a year of fine arts of which the second year could not be completed due to the lack of students for the second year course in college. He also was involved with a sponsor group called JSANO. This was a summer retreat held in Kirkland Lake of which he was asked to attend for young artists during the summer break off school. He was 13. He also entered a private group at a young age for development of skills needed for Professional Artists. However despite all of this this was not yet to be his calling until one day fate would line him up.

At the age of 48 henry was diagnosed with a stage 4 cancer. Being untreatable but only by operational means, this cancer was extremely rare and aggressive doctors were surprised it had halted into a ball. Surgery was successful and with no signs of further spread to this day.

A decision was made shortly after much rest. "I knew i didn't want to lay around and collect disability or welfare." he states "I decided that I will try to paint  ."

He painted almost everyday after that. practice and practice. he had knack for various styles and was bold in many of them as you may have a chance to observe this in his styles and brush work.

May we introduce Henry Reuben to the Untamed Anakawana group.
